Once you have zoomed in, boat launches and other points of interest will show up on the map as clickable red icons (see the key below the map). Driving Landmarks: From Route 4 South to Exit 7 towards Quonset Point. This will put you on Route 403 south. In about 2 1/2 miles take the exit for Davisville Road and follow it to the end at Allen Harbor.

Shoreline: There are two concrete boat ramps with a floating dock in-between. The rest of the nearby shoreline is a mix of bulkheads, piers, rip-rap and gravel.

Note: Because one boat launch can access, say, both a lake and a river or both the upstream and downstream portions of a river, not all paddling trips at a given site will necessarily encounter all of the features listed.
Comments & Overview:The municipal Allen Harbor Marina run by the Town of North Kingstown has two concrete boat ramps plus various slips, docks and other facilities. The marina is within the Quonset Point Industrial Park and is a busy place, both on and off the water. Allen Harbor is small and filled with moored boats in the summer. Outside of Allen Harbor you are on the open waters of Narragansett Bay, where seas and wind are normal, so caution is advised. The shoreline to the north of Allen Harbor is relatively natural and undeveloped, but straight and without any shelter until you get to the Potowamut River, about 3 miles to the north. Heading south from Allen Harbor takes you into a commercial port area, where large vessels can be expected and the shoreline is often tall bulkheads with no place to land. On most days the southwest wind fills in strongly in this area in the morning and blows briskly throughout the afternoon, producing strong waves once you are outside of the harbor, so be prepared for this when planning your trip.
